I got mugged last weekend and it taught me some BIG business lessons

I got MUGGED last weekend and it taught me some BIG lessons... 😖

I was walking along the street (In Victoria, London) and my friend called, so naturally I got my phone out of my pocket and started chatting away.

THEN, my head got knocked to one side and before I knew it someone on a bike had grabbed my phone from my ear and f***ed off with it 🤬🤬🤬

I had to walk 45 mins back home (because I didn't have any other form of payment on me and was too scared to bump the tube 😇).

And then once home, I changed all of my passwords, logged into Apple to trace and erase that phone, charged my spare I phone so I could access my contacts while out and about and then headed straight to EE to block that phone and get a new sim.

THEN went straight to Apple to buy a brand new phone and Apple care. £1400 later. Ouch. 😢

I wasn't harmed in anyway but it was bloody annoying!

Okay, so what are the lessons here ⬇️

✅ Lesson 1: If you're travelling in London, be very aware that phone muggings are RIFE

To try and deter robbers in the future, I bought myself a wrist lanyard strap thing for my case and I'm telling my friends to do the same. See pic below.

✅ Lesson 2: Have insurance (and check your policy)

Okay, this sounds super obvious but I've asked so many people now if they have phone or laptop insurance and they don't.

✅ Lesson 3: Always carry a different form of payment

With Apple pay (or similar) I very rarely carry my wallet with me now. If you live in a city, you literally can't do anything without paying for it.

✅ Lesson 4: Make sure you know your Apple ID logins (or similar)

This is SUPER important.

✅ Lesson 5: Make sure Find My I phone is ON (or similar)

Your insurance needs it to be on, the police do and you need to be able to erase your phone remotely.

✅ Lesson 6: Next time you upgrade, keep your old phone as a spare

It's good for contacts and to connect to wifi if you need to, while out and about.

✅ Lesson 7: Make sure you can access all of your bank accounts via another device

All of my banks are app based and couldn't access them via my laptop, so had to call my sister to transfer me money. Luckily, I had my spare phone on me.

✅ Lesson 8: As a business owner, I needed to be more prepared for this situation

Like you, I can't afford to be out of action for a long period of time and I now have a plan should this happen again.

⚠️ Security is your number 1 priority ⚠️

Passwords: All of my passwords are unique and I use LastPass to manage that for me. So when I got home, I used LastPass to change all of my passwords for me just in case.

Remote access: Via Find My I Phone on my spare phone, I was then able to immediately erase that device.

If you don't have either of these things set up for your personal and business devices, please do this now to protect yourself, your business and your clients.

And then please make sure you're prepared should this sadly happen to you.

Stay safe ❤️
