Referrals are a GREAT way to grow your consultancy and I've got a CLEVER way to make them happen more often.
So there's two groups of people to get referrals from.
The first are your past, current and future clients
And the second are other people, like local business owners, accountants, solicitors and networking groups etc.
For this post, I'm just going to focus on clients.
To get more referrals from your clients, you simply just need to ask.
Here's how...
First, make a list of past and existing clients that are likely to refer you because you've done a great job for them.
And then reach out to ask - send them a letter, email and LinkedIn message.
BUT there's a clever way to do this using something called a referral kit and incentive.
A referral kit isΒ a physical prop that a referral partner can use to introduce you to a potential new customer.
So for members of our Monthly Marketing Content service, we've created "The HR Buyer's Guide".
It includes everything a business owner needs to know about getting the right type of HR support for their business - including the pros and cons of hiring internally vs outsourcing to a HR consultant, pricing and lots of other stuff.
Giving your clients something like this gives them the confidence to refer you more often because they can offer additional value to their contact by doing so.
THEN, you need to incentivise your client to refer you by offering them a little gift in anticipation of their referral, not as a reward for doing so.
This could be a Starbucks or amazon gift voucher, or something else that would work.
In addition to this, you then need to give the person receiving the referral a little introductory offer or something similar.

β How do you make sure you keep on getting referrals from clients in the future?
That's easy. When you've done a great job for someone, simply send them this referral campaign and make sure your prompt to do this is systemised.
β And then you need to keep on reminding people to refer you....
An easy way to do this is by creating a nice email footer and this should link to a page on your website where they can access your referral kit.
